Why walk when you can ride - Melbourne

Australia's most iconic piazza, Federation Square has joined the popular electric bike scene, with Rentabike Melbourne launching an Electric Bike hire service and guided tours in time for summer.

Tourists and locals can now explore the city and its bike trails without raising a sweat - the pedal-assist A2B electric bike does all the hard work.

Former journalist Murray Johnston has run bike tours in the city for 12 years and Rentabike @ Federation Square has been hiring bikes in Melbourne since 1976.

This week he launched electric bike hire and tours and said electric bikes have added another dimension to the city's sightseeing experience.

“It’s like riding a normal bike downhill with the wind behind you – even when you’re going uphill,” Murray said. “You’ll see more of Melbourne in a few hours than most see in days, powered by green electricity. You’ll discover places that cars can’t go while reducing your carbon footprint.

“You can save the planet while saving your legs, but you still have to pedal, so you’re still guaranteed some healthy exercise.

"People can either cruise Melbourne's coolest parks, markets, shops, bars, restaurants and multicultural neighbourhoods or explore the Yarra and Capital City bike trails by themselves, or join us for a cruisey ride with a local guide.

"Rentabike’s Real Melbourne Electric Bike Tours are a great way to get your bearings and pick up some local knowledge without worrying about reading maps or getting lost.”

To celebrate the launch of A2B electric bike hire in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, A2B is giving away a $2800 Ferber bike, widely acclaimed as being at the forefront of e-bike innovation and design across the world.

Simply snap a selfie and you could win an A2B bike boasting the latest technology, award winning design and comfort, easily rechargeable battery and top quality manufacturing.

A2B was the pioneer of electric bikes across the world, building the first true electric bike with an internal motor system in 2008, after five years of research and design and recognised industry-wide for its leading design, technology and engineering.

To take part in the #A2Bselfie competition – hire a bike, take a selfie and post it on Twitter with the #A2Bselfie hashtag.

A2B provides a premium range of e-bikes that have been extensively researched and painstakingly designed since 2003. In 2008, A2B revolutionised the electric bike market with the launch of the world’s first true e-bike – a premium electric bike called the Metro that was designed specifically for power and not simply a normal bicycle with a battery added.

We are proud that our e-bikes have been recognised by prestigious organisations such as ExtraEnergy.com, the German-based worldwide LEV testing authority and the British Design Museum in London, which nominated the Obree for the international Designs of the Year Award in March 2014.

A2B has played a vital role in setting industry standards as co-founder of the British Electric Bicycle Association, now recognised as the voice of the industry in the UK. In many markets A2B has been the first premium e-bike brand, if not the first e-bike brand.

A2B is part of the Hero Eco group.
